Marlene Dietrich's role is so prominent, and the express so slow, that the film should have been called Shanghai Lil', but maybe the Hays Code would have had something to say about a film title which is the name of a prostitute.

A film about a hat. At least, Smith's hat makes prominent appearances, gets lost and reappears. As sub-plots go, it's quite intriguing. Oh, and about photos and sculptures and things "written in stone". Actually, it's quite funny.

A handsome Paul Muni as a fugitive from prison. He seems to be doing quite well here, but these are his salad days, between sojourn's in a southern state penitentiary.

Delightful comedy, set in France with just the one Frenchman (Chevalier) romancing Jeanette MacDonald (before her pairing with Nelson Eddy)

Weird editing, and strange images in the version I've found make this somewhat confusing, but creepy nevertheless...
